Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc sits at the tip of Cap d'Antibes on 22 acres of pine and eucalyptus forest above the Mediterranean, 25 minutes from Nice airport and 15 minutes from Cannes. The estate divides into two structures. The Grand Hotel — the original white neoclassical building — sits at the top of the cliff and contains 85 rooms and suites, each with a different floor plan. Its main terrace dining room is one of the most ceremonially formal lunch settings in Europe during Cannes season. The Eden-Roc Pavilion sits at the bottom of the cliff, directly above the sea, connected by a path through the forest and a private elevator. The Pavilion contains 41 suites and has its own restaurant, bar, and pool. The Pavilion suites are the correct choice for most guests: sea-level position, direct water access, and the specific quality of being in a building that feels as though the Mediterranean was built around it rather than the building placed in front of it.
The Pool | Cut From Solid Rock in 1914
The Eden-Roc pool is the most specific single amenity at any hotel on the French Riviera. In 1914 the owner had a basin blasted out of the granite cliff at sea level and filled it with Mediterranean seawater. The pool sits on the rock at the water's edge, surrounded on three sides by the cliff face. Swimming to the far edge places you one meter above open ocean. At sunrise, with no other guests in the water and the Cap d'Antibes pines above you, there is nothing quite like it within two hours of a major airport anywhere in the world. It is heated in shoulder season. In July and August it receives 50 guests by mid-morning; arrive before 7:30 AM to have it to yourself.

The Eden-Roc Restaurant | The Definitive Terrace Lunch
The Eden-Roc restaurant on the pavilion terrace facing the sea is the best argument for staying on-property rather than visiting for a day. Non-resident access to the restaurant is tightly controlled in peak season; the hotel prioritizes room guests. The terrace in July on a clear afternoon at 1 PM is one of the most photographed and most genuinely pleasurable lunch experiences on the Riviera. The menu is classic and confident: bouillabaisse, Dover sole meunière, whole grilled sea bass, a seafood plateau. Lunch for two with a half-bottle of Provence rosé runs €350-€500. A la carte. Best Time to Visit | June Is Better Than July
The optimal window is the first two weeks of June or the last two weeks of September. In both periods: rates are 25-35% lower than peak, the pool is uncrowded before 9 AM, the restaurant accepts walk-in lunch requests, and the pine forest in the afternoon heat produces the specific scent — resin and salt air — that is more evocative of this place than any photograph.
