La Réserve de Ramatuelle opened in 2013 on a forty-metre cliff above Pampelonne Beach, one kilometre south of Club 55. It was built by Michel Reybier, who made his money in charcuterie and subsequently acquired Château Cos d'Estournel in Saint-Estèphe and La Réserve Geneva before commissioning Jacques Garcia to design this property. Garcia is the designer most associated with maximalist French hotel interiors — Hôtel Costes in Paris, La Mamounia in Marrakech — but at Ramatuelle he worked against type, producing something that is spare and textured rather than layered. The Position | Why the Cliff Matters
The property occupies a cliff between the beach road and open Mediterranean. The consequence of this position is that every room faces the sea at elevation. The six-metre infinity pool at the main terrace level is cantilevered over the cliff edge; swimming to the far end places the horizon directly in your sightline with no beach umbrellas, road, or infrastructure between you and open water. The walk down to Pampelonne Beach is five minutes on a private path. The walk back up is twelve minutes and steeper than you remember. This is described honestly in the hotel's own materials.
The Rooms | Villas and Suites
La Réserve holds 28 suites and villas. The Villa categories — Villa Jardin, Villa Piscine, Villa Grand Luxe — sit at terrace level with private pools and outdoor living rooms. Garden-facing villas are the entry point for guests who want full private outdoor space; sea-facing villas are priced significantly above them. Standard suites begin at a smaller footprint but retain a private terrace with pool access. The Superior Sea View Suite, a 75-sqm room with a wraparound terrace, is the correct entry point for most guests staying four nights or fewer. The design throughout is monochromatic neutral with accents of sage, terracotta, and washed linen — a palette that earns the description of quiet luxury without forcing the point.
The Spa de Mer | Sea-Water Treatments
The spa is built into the cliff face at water level, accessed by the same elevator system that connects the property's terraces. Thalassotherapy treatments use Mediterranean seawater drawn directly from depth and heated. The eight treatment rooms include a hammam, a hydrotherapy pool, and a cold plunge. Signature treatments run 90-120 minutes at €220-€360. The spa is available to non-residents by appointment; book three to four weeks in advance for July and August. The thermal pool area is guest-exclusive. The relaxation space at the base of the cliff, with its view through floor-to-ceiling glass at sea level, is the most arresting single interior on the Riviera for guests who do not require a panorama from height.
Restaurant La Voile | The Dinner Argument
La Voile, the property's principal restaurant, operates on the main terrace at cliff edge. Executive Chef Eric Canino trained under Alain Ducasse and produces a Mediterranean menu of technical precision without theatricality: a John Dory with fennel pollen, a lobster with Provencal vegetable jus, a soufflé au Grand Marnier that takes 25 minutes and is worth every minute of it. The wine program, shaped by the Reybier wine ownership background, is exceptional — Cos d'Estournel appears by the glass at dinner, and the Provence rosé selection is the most credible list in the region. Dinner for two without wine runs €280-€360. With a bottle from the cellar, budget €450-€600.
