About Dior

Christian Dior founded his house at 30 Avenue Montaigne, Paris, on December 16, 1946. The first collection, presented in February 1947, was called the Corolle line and featured wasp-waisted jackets with full, calf-length skirts. Carmel Snow, editor-in-chief of Harpers Bazaar, christened it the New Look, and fashion history was rewritten.

Dior died of a heart attack in 1957, just 11 years after founding a house that had become synonymous with Parisian elegance. Successors including Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano, and Raf Simons each reinterpreted the house codes. Galliano's 15-year tenure was the longest and most theatrically ambitious, producing some of the most celebrated couture collections of the 1990s and 2000s.

Jonathan Anderson was appointed creative director in 2025, taking control of both womenswear and couture. His early collections signal a sculptural, materially driven direction that challenges Dior's romantic heritage while keeping the house's construction standards fully intact.
